Calls for submissions

-eyes my Warriors fanfiction I could pick for potential tweaking- Just kidding. ;D

Circlet Press has a new call for fantasy erotica involving sentient magical beasts and shapeshifters. Deadline February 1, 2018. http://www.circlet.com/call-for-submissions-fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-f-them/ Erotica’s not my thing, but hopefully someone finds this useful!

This one sounds very fun to write for o.o. I can have fun with this one.

Angry Robot has posted their next open door submission period. Starting on Nov. 1, they’ll be taking unagented novel subs.
details: https://www.angryrobotbooks.com/open-door-2017/

This is exactly what I need in my life right now. I dint think book one is fantasy by its self but… It is a fantasy 3 oiece over all.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to F*** Them

http://www.circlet.com/call-for-submissions-fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-f-them/

DEADLINE: February 1, 2018

Seeking erotic short stories with magical beasts and shapeshifter tropes. Although the title of the anthology is somewhat comedic–and levity is definitely welcome!–we’re not looking for parody or satire. Open to all mythical and magical creatures with sentience–centaurs, werewolves/human-animal shifters, intelligent dragons, merfolk, etc. Definitely open to unicorns, griffins, banshees, minotaurs, etc. so long as the spark of sentience is present. (There’s a fine line between bestiality and what we’re allowed to publish and sentience draws that line.)

As for what kinds of stories we’re looking for? We’re tired of the “same old” werewolf stories, but not tired of how magical beasts can represent sexuality and erotic need in fiction, especially marginalized sexuality and repressed needs. We’re tired of the “alpha meets fated mate” trope, but not tired of encounters with the magical being life-changing. We’re tired of the “(white) colonial explorer goes into wildest place and tames native beast” trope, too, but not tired of diverse characters and settings, especially when told by #ownvoices.

We’re always interested in characters and stories that include various marginalized sexual identities and practices including polyamory, kink, genderqueer and gender variant, BDSM, bisexuality/pansexuality, trans identities, as well as “regular ol’” gay or lesbian characters. (General note: We’re also all for asexual representation though we realize that may seem out of place to some for an erotica anthology. Please no stories where someone’s asexuality is “cured” — please yes to stories that include affirmations that asexuality is valid.)

Finally, although the anthology title is explicitly a riff on the universe of a certain famous boy wizard, stories do not have to be in any way related to or parodies of said universe. In fact it’s probably better not to tickle that sleeping dragon, unless you’re really really clever about it.

Submission Details:

Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3,000 to 7,000 words, but we will consider the range from 2,000 to 8,000 words.

How to Submit: All submissions must be made via email to Cecilia Tan, editor, at the email address ctan.editor@gmail.com.

Submissions sent to other addresses/other editors at Circlet Press will not be considered.

Standard manuscript formatting rules apply even though sending as an attachment (MS Word .doc or .rtf preferred). Please note that this means your name, address, and email contact must appear on the manuscript itself and not simply in your email message. (If you’re not sure what standard short story submission format should look like, Google is your friend.)

No simultaneous submissions (that is, don’t also send your story elsewhere at the same time, and don’t send it to multiple Circlet editors, either), and no multiple submissions to the same book. One story per author per anthology.

All stories must include explicit sexuality and erotic focus. Romantic content is welcome, but in a short story remember to keep the details on the action and its effects on the main character’s internal point of view. We favor a strong, singular narrative voice (no “head hopping” or swapping between different character’s points of view within a scene). For more details on our editorial preferences, see the general submission guidelines on circlet.com. We highly recommend reading the guidelines, especially the “do not send” list, to increase your chances of sending us something we’ll love. Try to avoid cliches. Fresh and direct language is preferred to overly euphemistic. Sex-positive, please, no rape/nonconsensuality/necrophilia or other purposefully gross topics.

Originals only, no reprints. We purchase first rights for inclusion in the ebook anthology for $25, with the additional rights to a print edition later which would also be paid $25 if a print edition happens. Authors retain the rights to the individual stories; Circlet exercises rights to the anthology as a whole.

The Jackal Who Came in From the Cold: http://www.foxspirit.co.uk/jackal-came-cold-submission-call/

Call for submissions from Fox Spirit Books (not furry but very furry-friendly).

During March we will be accepting short story submissions for an anthology.

‘The Jackal who came in from the cold’

The anthology has a spy story theme, and we will consider stories written in most genres as long as they contain a spy story. They do not need to include a Jackal.

The stories in this anthology should be Furry. This means we are looking for anthropomorphised animal characters, people with extremely animalistic characteristics and the range in between. We have had plenty of stories that would classify as Furry in our anthologies in the past, but this is the first time we will be only accepting such tales, or tails. Anything from the secret life of animals, to a fox at Starbucks.

We will be using a sensitivity reader as part of our final decision process.

We would encourage furry writers to submit.

Payment will be £15 plus a print copy of the final book. All our usual submission information applies.

As always we are only seeking English language, print and ebook rights and exclusivity is 12 months from the submission deadline.

I swear I had nothing to do with this.

Anything from the secret life of animals, to a fox at Starbucks.

Sounds like they pulled that from ROAR’s guidelines.

It struck me that Mary’s ‘fox in Starbucks’ has become shorthand for a particular style of furry writing everywhere!

For values of “they” approximating “leinir”, pretty much yes - as Huskyteer puts it, it does seem to me that it has become a sort of shorthand, and as that range very much describes what is wanted, i suggested using that. If you feel like it dances too close to plagiarism, blame it on me, not Fox Spirit…

Apex will have a guest issue for zodiac-themed stories:

Deadline is May 1, 2018. This market, though hard to crack, pays very well and I figured that the zodiac theme opens doors for animal-centric stories.

POLARDOG PRODUCTIONS presents
“The Beast By Lake Goodwin” Submission Call
Deadline: “The Beast By Lake Goodwin” Will be an ongoing project running throughout the summer of 2018. Please have your submissions in by May 15, 2018 for a chance to be in the first episode.
Payment: ½ cent USD per word upon acceptance. If you narrate it yourself, a $5 USD bonus will be paid on top of author fee.

Cheesy 80’s horror vibe required: The Beast By Lake Goodwin is an intimidating, massive critter easily larger than a horse, haunts a tiny mountain town. Although truly benevolent, this Angeluq is never recognized as such.

Survivors and witnesses of such ‘close encounters’ are requested to share their pg-13 tales. Please send either your recorded audio or your written shorts. Those whose works are featured, will find their stories recreated in puppet form.

Please send submissions as an attached .doc, .docx, MP3, Winword, or .rtf file to AmMadre1986(at)gmail.com with a subject line that reads: SUBMISSION: “Close Encounters” – Author Name. Please include a wordcount.
Response time — Most final decisions won’t be made until after the deadline, but all stories should receive a response by late August

Enchanted Conversation is open to submissions for its “Animal Tales” theme until March 30:

http://www.fairytalemagazine.com/p/submissions-guidelines.html

700 to 2000 words, no reprints, simsubs okay, pays $20 by PayPal. Fairy tale, folklore, or mythic settings only. They also don’t send out rejection notices, so you have to wait until they post the list of selected authors on their website to see if your story made it in or not.

Cricket Media Group, Inc, is seeking Dragon stories for their Spider magazine, which is aimed at readers aged 6-9.

Cricket is a dynamic and long-standing magazine that pays professional rates. Note the March deadline!

You can read their guidelines and submit, here: https://cricketmag.submittable.com/submit

SPIDER, a literary magazine for children, features fresh and engaging literature, poems, articles, and activities for newly independent readers. Editors seek energetic, beautifully crafted submissions with strong “kid appeal” (an elusive yet recognizable quality, often tied to high-interest elements such as humor, adventure, and suspense).

We have particular interests in stories that explore themes of identity (gender expression, ability, race and ethnicity, family structure including LGBTQAI+ and single parent homes, neighborhoods, beliefs, and traditions); global cultures and languages (current needs include South American, African, and Middle Eastern countries, island nations, and Native American nations); scientific and technological exploration and innovation; magical or interplanetary landscapes; cities and metropolitan areas; real kids doing real things; weird and sometimes gross stuff; and the creative spirit.

While general submissions are accepted year-round, we are also seeking submissions on the following topics at this time:

Dragons
Deadline: March 15, 2018

Spider (for ages 6-9) is looking for stories, poetry, activities, and nonfiction exploring the theme of Dragons and Magic. Calling all dragons! We want big dragons, small dragons, serpent-like dragons, Viking dragons, gold-hoarding dragons, dragons that breath fire or ice, swimming dragons, flying dragons, burrowing dragons, fierce dragons, timid dragons, nice dragons, and even wanna-be dragons. Send your traditional tales, but also stories with a creative contemporary spin. Especially welcome: works by writers from underrepresented groups (people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQAI+ folks, and other marginalized peoples).

Uncanny Magazine is looking for stories about dinosaurs! The deadline is March 15, which is coming up fast! This is a pro-rate, SFWA-qualifying market for science fiction and fantasy. As long as you follow or at least acknowledge the starting prompt in some way, I think the dinosaurs could be anthropomorphic and shown in whatever kind of setting you’d like. https://uncannymagazine.com/uncanny-magazine-dinosaur-special-issue-guidelines/

Circlet Press have two current calls for submissions, both of which have furry potential:

Safe, Sane, Consentacle (deadline 31st March): consensual sex involving one or more participants with tentacles

Asexual romance anthology (deadline 15th April): asexual romance involving any sort of being at all

This group is looking for poetry (from what I can gather from comments on the original post, flash fiction may be acceptable as well) from the perspective of sentient moles in a fantasy world. This is a bit of an odd one, but it looks quite fun. I found it through a closed Facebook group for writers but the editor hasn’t posted a public link anywhere. It is an open call, however, so apparently it can be shared. I will copy and paste:

Open Call Poetry 10 cents a word

New RPG publisher is looking for poetry for a stretch goal tied into a new RPG kickstarting in April.
Rates are $.10 CAD (10 cents) up to $10 per piece.
We are looking for a diverse style with our book and both short and long pieces are encouraged.

Any theme, style or poetry or length of piece is encouraged though preference will be given to pieces with a lighter fun tone.

Source material will be provided to refine your piece once the editors have a look at it, but in essence, if you are comfortable writing a poem from the perspective of a sentient mole with a rich culture living in a fantasy world populated with many mythical races and races unique to our world you won’t go wrong. Themes and subject material can revolve around shiny objects, digging burrows, playing pranks and finding interesting things to eat. Think of what a hobbit might write if the Hobbit was a three foot high mole.

Accepted writers will be expected to work with the editor to mold their piece into the world we are building. This may involve adding specific historical character names, adjusting creatures to our world’s ecology or renaming items.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the
