Coming out as a Furry

A friend of mine recently came out of the fuzzy closet to his gf. She’s trying hard to understand, but all she knows is the stereotypes and doesn’t get how a community of “talking animals” can help a person name friends and find themselves. I remember seeing a few videos that explained it far better than I ever could, but beyond Culturally F’ed, I cannot for the life of me remember what they were.

Anyone have some good suggestions? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

How about the Oh Joy Sex Toy comic that Kyell Gold scripted? No link right now as I’m at work

I second Huskyteer on the comment. And the “I’m at work and can’t link.”

There’s a really good documentary directed by Eric Risher called Furries: A Documentary. It is more a look in on us for an audience that doesn’t know us. And it is really good. I know Knotcast gave it a fairly positive review. I also may be a bit bias as I am one of the subjects in the film. It can be rented for about $4 at http://www.furryfilm.com/ so that may be a good option.

I will second both the above, with the benefit that I am not at work.

Though Munch’s initial question could open to a wider discussion. I mean, I don’t really hide I’m a furry. I may not use that term initially, and may talk about it more as an interest in talking animals, but I don’t try to hide it. I mean, I also play D&D, video games, and watch anime. Furry is another hobby or interest for me.

Granted, I try to down play the NSFW aspect of it, but I don’t deny it either. It is a part of the community, but not the only part.

There’s a second OJST comic that goes more in depth on fursuiting, dispelling some of the myths. http://www.ohjoysextoy.com/fursuits-grey-white/
